About Isabel
Hi, I’m Isabel,
and I’m so glad you’re here.
Officially, a holistic leadership coach and culture consultant championing individuals and teams to live and lead well.
Unofficially, a great listener who tries too hard at monopoly, loves to dance (with or without an audience), comes alive in nature, delights in good people and good meals, and embraces life’s biggest questions.
As a former organizational consultant with McKinsey, and a People and Culture Lead, I’ve made it my business to guide teams through culture transformation to reach higher levels of performance.
At Team Joy, I make it my business to help you live in integrity, so you can pursue excellence AND wellbeing.
I partner with individuals and teams to let go of mindsets and behaviors that don’t work and find new ones that feel more authentic, energizing, and effective.
My Story
My story is one of a sensitive achiever trying to use my energy to contribute at the highest level, while prioritizing my wellbeing.
A look into who I am
I want to win, even if the stakes are low (think intramural sports game).
Competitive
I can intuitively feel what the people around me are feeling.
Sensitive
I was the type of kid who would ask the cab driver about their life story.
Inquisitive
I can easily visualize how things could be and the path to getting there.
Strategic
It physically hurts me to lie, and I always want to be talking about the heart of things.
Truthful
My work journey
I have always been deeply curious about cultures…why do we do things the way we do? How do the systems we create inform the behaviors we live out?
I studied Political Science at Rice to explore cultures and systems in the political arena. I joined the inaugural class of Schwarzman Scholars in Beijing, China to get a Masters in Global Affairs and become more intimately familiar with Chinese cultures and building bridges cross-culturally.
As I explored post-grad jobs, I knew I wanted to work for a company that prioritized teamwork, excellence, growth, and learning. I found a fit working as a management consultant at McKinsey in the organization practice. My work with clients focused on the “people side” of business, where I became a specialist in culture work, helping teams work more effectively.
I quickly learned I loved the training, high standards, and teamwork, but I hated the late nights, anxiety-filled weekends, and transactional nature of our work. I wanted more heart, well-being, and connection alongside our pursuit of impact. My competitive, strategic, inquisitive nature was fueled, but the sensitive side of me that deeply values truth and integrity was not. With this awareness, I came to see that it’s the experiences that are good, but not quite right, that are the hardest to walk away from.
As I was leaving McKinsey after four years, I began experiencing mysterious symptoms and chronic pain. I navigated many painful months before I was finally correctly diagnosed with Crohn’s disease.
I left my job, slowed down, and began prioritizing my wellbeing above all else. I promised myself I would stop over-exhausting my body in the name of “success.” I began seeking out leaders and communities I could learn from to find a more authentic version of success for me.
I joined the Innner MBA, a 9-month course in building conscious businesses, where I learned how crucial mindfulness is to our individual and collective wellbeing.
I joined the Wayfinder Life Coaching Certification, a 9-month coach training that teaches you how to listen to your internal compass and lead clients to do the same.
I invested in working with my own coach, where I (to this day) consistently expand my own self-awareness and capacity to live and work in integrity.
These experiences helped me get really clear on my mission:
I seek to support businesses in creating a team environment of excellence and joy AND empower individuals to listen to their internal compass to experience more integrity and joy in their lives.
I have explored many ways of living into this purpose: serving as Daymaker’s Interim Head of People & Culture, designing and leading offsites for teams, facilitating leadership trainings for early stage consultants, and, of course, working 1-on-1 with clients.
No matter the format, I am always reminded of a really important truth: the work of looking inward is life-giving for each of us, as individuals, and it’s also what our world needs.
Our internal knowing guides us to live in more alignment with who we really are and who we want to be. As we begin healing ourselves, we have the awareness and the tools to begin healing our world.
If you are also seeking more integrity and healing in your life,
I’d consider it a pleasure to walk alongside you.
